HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. It will help protect you in the following ways:
-
gives patients the right to review and correct their medical records
-
makes it necessary for patients to approve the sharing of any information that is not related to service or payment of claims
-
protects any information that would identify you or your medical condition makes it easier to get health coverage for you and your family if you start a new job
-
if there is a pre-existing condition, makes it harder for a company to deny coverage
While most of the new regulations are for insurance companies and medical providers, some are policies that are important to the security of your confidential information. These policies are still being written so please return to our website for future updates.
